
Mitsubishi started to act as car producing company when it was only a branch of a large corporation, which was aimed on light industry, ship building, real estate sale and insurance. The wide sphere of interests of Mitsubishi included eve brewery. For example, famous beer Kirin in Japan was firstly produced by this corporation. In 1874 a company was renamed into Mitsubishi Shokai and finally in 1875 it was called Mitsubishi Mail Steamship Company.
During 1930-s Mitsubishi was developing rapidly and became very successful. It was one of the first companies which presented diesel engine with direct injection. In 1932 a first bus B46 was produced. It was one of the most powerful buses during that period of time. During 1990-s Mitsubishi Pajero has won a lot of races in the World Rally Championship. This year was also very important for the company due to launching GTO (3000GT) model. It has become the best imported automobile in the United States according to popular magazine which is called Motor Trend. But despite its success in sports Mitsubishi has been making deep technological researches. It reflected on such models as Sigma and Diamante, which were produced in 1990. The main advantage of these cars was absolutely new TRC system (Traction Control System). Production of Minica Toppo took place at the same time, followed by the second generation of Pajero as well as new RVR (Space Runner) model.
Production of Emeraude-4, four-door hardtop car on the base of Galant, took place in 1992 and it was aimed only on the inner Japanese market. But the main occasion of this period was the fact the Lancer Evolution hit the automobile market. A lot of innovations were presented such as MIVEC and INVECS systems and company opens Mitsubishi Motors Europe Design Studio.
